A PRACTICAL PRIVACY CHECKLIST
A quit-smoking app without an account: what should you check?
Skipping a sign-up form can make it easier to begin. It does not, by itself, tell you where your information goes. Compare the actual features, data handling and purchase terms before you choose.
Start with the job you need the app to do.
Try the basic workflow before making a purchase: enter a quit date, find your timer, adjust the habits used for savings and open the craving-support tools. Decide which of those tasks matters to you today, then check whether it works without a login or subscription.
An app that keeps your profile on one device and an app built around a cloud account make different tradeoffs. Local use avoids creating another login. Account-based use may offer cross-device features, if the developer documents them. Neither approach alone proves that an app is private, secure or effective.
Compare these details, rather than the sign-up screen.
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Starting for free | Can you save a quit date and use the features you need without registering? Which features require payment? |
| Your quit profile and notes | Where are they stored? Does the policy explain whether notes, photos or health-related entries leave your device? |
| Purchases and measurement | Which payment and analytics services receive records? No app account does not mean there is no transaction or technical data. |
| A new phone or a deleted app | How do backups, data recovery and purchase restoration work? A restored purchase is different from a restored quit history. |
| Leaving the app | Does deleting the app erase local records? What remains in backups or service-provider records? How do you cancel a subscription? |
How iQ fits that checklist.
iQ does not require an iQ account. The free features include the smoke-free timer, SOS activities, recovery timeline, core achievement badges, daily missions and one active savings goal. Optional Premium adds more goals and longer-term progress features; the app shows the available terms before you buy.
Your quit profile, goals, craving notes and activity history are stored on your device. Widgets and a paired Apple Watch receive limited progress information, and device backups can contain app data depending on your Apple settings.
Apple handles payments, and RevenueCat manages purchase access. RevenueCat receives a randomly generated app identifier, purchase and subscription records, technical information, Premium offer-view events and fixed latest-state offer or checkout labels, plus Apple Ads attribution. These are separate from your local quit history. The offer measurements do not contain your quit profile, smoking quantities, savings amounts, craving notes, goals or photos. No account should not be read as a promise that no data is processed. Read the current Privacy Policy for the full details.

Try a simple check before committing.
- Open iQ and set up a quit date without creating an app account. Explore the free timer, SOS tools and a single savings goal.
- Check the units and pack price behind savings estimates. They are calculated from your entries, rather than measured from your bank account.
- Review Premium’s local price, billing period and any trial conditions before confirming an Apple purchase. A free trial, when available and eligible, can turn into a paid subscription.
- If you have an existing purchase, use Restore Purchases with the Apple Account that bought it. Restoring access does not promise recovery of deleted local notes or progress.
- Read the deletion and backup explanation. Deleting iQ removes local data from that device, while offloading keeps it. Backups and paired-device data may remain separately. Deleting an app does not cancel a subscription.
Privacy is one part of choosing support.
A clear interface and a data policy you understand can make a tool easier to use, but a tracker is not a treatment plan. iQ is a self-management tool and does not replace personal medical advice. Its general recovery milestones do not measure your own health or establish that iQ will help you quit.
This guide is written by iQ’s developer. It is a decision checklist, not an independent review or a ranking of competitors. Product details can change, so check the current App Store page and the policies of any app you compare.
If a simple, account-free start suits you, try iQ’s free essentials on iPhone. You can decide about optional Premium after seeing what the app does.
